My wife and I have only been home from our winter break for less than a week and already our life feels like it’s spinning out of control with busyness-and we are retired! Patrick Lencioni is a business man who has written a book about how to apply some of the principles he’s learned in business that may help us manage our family lives. With the school year winding down and a busy summer approaching, I thought it would be good to look at three areas of Lencioni book that will help us:
1. How his principles apply to our family life.
2. How they apply to directors managing a Kids Hope USA program
3. How directors can empathize with and help volunteers manage some of the busyness in their lives.
We all agree that in this electronic age, life is moving quickly and we often have too much to respond to in any given day. His first step is for people to look at and determine what their core values are. The purpose of that of course is to narrow the playing field of your life so you can decide which are the priority areas of your life and which are simply a distraction. You might begin by making a list of your core values this week as a means of beginning to focus your thoughts on this important topic in your life.
Sounds like my husband and me. We have been retired a little over a year. My husband has a part-time job. We are getting too busy and need to re-evaluate our activies. We have been enjoying retirement and have wanted to volunteer for “everything”!
