One of the greatest challenges for many directors is forming a strong and dependable leadership team. Lencioni suggests 3 traits that might lead a director to dismiss someone from their leadership team. They are;
1. Too methodical.
2. Too complaining.
3. Lack of engagement at meetings and follow up responsibilities.
Three traits that should be looked for and encouraged are;
1. Willingness to accept new responsibilities.
2. Creative ideas and willingness to implement them.
3. Responsible money manager.
It’s clear that negative traits and those who don’t pull their own weight simply drag the more positive people down. Not every person will have all the positive traits but make sure they are represented in the members you pick.
Next week we’ll discuss dealing with conflict.
