Last week Chan shared several traits of lukewarm Christians. This week he ups the stakes with this quote, “To put it plainly, churchgoers who are “lukewarm” are not Christians. We will not see them in heaven.” That’s a pretty bold statement but he backs it up with first John 2:3-4. “The man who says I know Him, but does not do what God commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” It’s interesting to me that Steve Sjogren in Conspiracy of Kindness makes the very same point as he describes God’s disgust with the supposed Christians of Laodicea. So if God is calling the church and its people to greater commitment, Chan suggests there are three questions all of us should be asking ourselves.
- Are you willing to say to God that he can have whatever he wants?
- Do you believe that wholehearted commitment to him is more important than any other thing of person in your life?
- Do you know that nothing you do in this life will ever matter, unless it is about loving God and loving the people he has made?
I struggle with prioritizing my life so that these three questions asked by God have a positive response in my daily life. Since lukewarm Christians are not even asking themselves these questions, I am comforted by the thought that God understands my struggle and walks with me giving me encouragement to stay in the struggle.
Please spend some reflection time this summer asking God where He may want you to go with you commitment to serving the adults and children involved in your KHUSA ministry.
