Anchors

This week Teresa, a mother in Lencioni’s story decides to go public with her friends and share her new plan to make family time the most important anchor in how they manage their time. The other moms are initially excited about her model, but after a week none of the other mom had tried to begin.  Teresa discovered that her 6 point model was just too complicated and the other moms felt like it was just adding one more layer of stress to their lives.  Teresa simplified her model by asking herself these two simple questions:

  1. What makes our family unique and different from every other family on the block?
  2. What is our top priority, the one thing that is most important in our family right now?  The answer would have to encapsulate values, core purpose, and the strategy to achieve it.

Perhaps a good place for each of us to begin is to answer these two questions for our family.  Next week, I’ll share what the couple in the book came up with in terms of standard objectives and defining objectives as the method of putting the answers to these two questions into operational action.
