Objectives

Lencioni’s businesslike approach to enhancing families reaches its culmination this week by reciting the five standard objectives that should be key in every family; they are:

1.  Finances

2.  Health

3.  Faith

4.  Education

5.  Marriage

In order for his model family to reach its rallying cry of more “quality time” with the family, he suggests the following five operational objectives:

1.  Cut back on extra curricular activities

2.  Cut back on social activities

3.  Watch less TV

4.  Make family vacations a priority

5.  Reduce husband’s business travel

4 out of 5 require giving something up in order to gain the time for new priorities, something has to be traded in order to gain the necessary new time.  Most of us would agree that families are too busy and are doing things that separate rather than unite.  Like a business, if families are serious about changing their lifestyle priorities, they must commit their new plan to paper.  Next week we’ll look a sample of a family who plan to change their priorities.
